Sharing the highway with trucks is a fact of life in Illinois, but consumers must ensure that they are taking the proper precautions to avoid personal injuries and car accidents. Follow these tips offered by the Secretary of State of Illinois:
1. When following a large vehicle, stay out of its blind spots.
2. Pay close attention to turn signals. Large vehicles need a lot of room to make turns.
3. When following a truck at night, always dim your headlights. Bright lights will blind the driver when they reflect off of the large side mirrors.

Recent Safety Tests Show Small Pickup Trucks Are Dangerous in Automobile Accidents

This video shows the results of recent safety testing on small pickup trucks and provides some insight into how these vehicles would perform in an automobile accident or truck accident. Notably, pickup trucks have a tough image, but the tests show that most small trucks have an increased risk of internal injuries, spinal injuries, and head injuries from an accident. In fact, not all manufacturers include a full range of airbags and these manufacturers avoid providing all safety features as standard equipment, possibly making their products more dangerous.
