Recession Leads to Surplus of Truck Drivers

Over the past several years, the United States has seen a shortage in skilled truck drivers. However, the economic recession plaguing the nation has created a surplus, rather than a shortage, in truck drivers. This surplus is attributed to the closure of many trucking companies and also due to a decrease in the amount of goods being shipped by trucks. According to a recent article, in the last three months of 2008, the amount shipped decreased by over six percent. Because of this, companies are laying-off truckers and lowering costs.
