16-Year Old Driver Injured In Collision With Semi-Truck

A 16-year old driver sustained serious injuries after his pick up truck collided with a semi-truck in Kinsman, Illinois last week. Our Chicago truck accident attorneys read about the accident on Morrisdailyherald.com. According to the report, the young driver was traveling north on Illinois 47 near DuPont Road when his pick up truck suddenly crossed over the centerline to oncoming traffic. Illinois State Police said there is no explanation for why the truck crossed the centerline.

As a result, the pickup truck was struck nearly head on by an oncoming semi-truck. The front of the semi collided with the passenger side of the pickup, causing the pickup to roll to a ditch on the westbound side of the road. Reports state that the pickup truck’s bed had been separated from the rest of the truck and was found in the middle of the road. Investigation teams found the 16-year old lying on the hood of the truck in the ditch. Supposedly, the driver had been ejected from the truck through the windshield.

The semi-truck stopped in the southbound lane after the accident, and the driver of the semi did not sustain any injuries. The 16-year old is currently being treated in Morris Hospital for the injuries he sustained. Authorities say his injuries are non-life threatening.

Our attorneys understand that accidents similar to the one above are very common and often fatal on Illinois roadways, generally taking place when a vehicle either deliberately or accidently crosses a centerline or median, travels the wrong way in a traffic lane, and crashes into an approaching vehicle. Similar accidents include a collision that occurred a few weeks ago when a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane of Interstate-87 collided head on with another vehicle, resulting in two sets of injuries and two fatalities. Another serious accident occurred this summer when a 21-year old college student from Burr Ridge, Illinois was driving the wrong way on southbound Interstate-55 and collided head on with a semi truck, killing him upon impact.

Illinois Police objectives to reduce the number of head-on accidents currently include attempting to find ways to keep vehicles from traveling into the opposite lane, minimizing the likelihood of a car crashing into an oncoming vehicle, and ultimately reduce the severity of accidents that occur. However, our attorneys understand that not all accidents are preventable. Truck accidents caused by distracted or negligent drivers can cause life-altering consequences to those involved, including personal injury, medical expenses, or property damage.
