Semi Truck Collision Results in Injury of 76-year-old Woman

Our Chicago semi truck accident attorneys recently read a news report on Tallahassee.com recounting a sudden semi truck accident that sent a 76-year-old woman to the hospital. The woman was traveling along an Interstate highway when she collided with a semi truck that was turning onto the highway. The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the driver of the semi truck remained uninjured. The driver of the semi truck was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.

The causation of semi truck accidents has been the basis of numerous studies. The production of these statistics has provided helpful insight into the factors associated with these types of devastating accidents. According to a study conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there is a statistically significant link between collisions of large trucks and passenger vehicle and the following associated factors:

– Interruption of traffic flow – Unfamiliarity with roadway
– Inadequate surveillance of roadways – Driving too fast for roadway conditions – Illegal maneuver – Inattention – Fatigue – Illegal drug or Alcohol Use – Illness – False assumption of other road user’s actions – Distraction by object or person inside vehicle
When any one of these factors is exhibited by the driver of a large commercial vehicle, the consequences can be deadly. Recently, our Illinois wrongful death attorneys settled a semi truck accident case in which these associated factors played a key role in the collision. Our attorneys obtained a $6.5 million settlement on behalf of the family of a 32-year-old woman who was killed as a result of a semi truck collision. The collision also resulted in the severe injury to the woman’s husband and son. The driver of the semi truck was found to be negligent in operating his vehicle under the influence of marijuana, in addition to, operating an overloaded truck.
