Whenever any type of motor vehicle is operated by an impaired driver, the risk for accidents resulting in life-threatening harm substantially increases. According to DUI.com, 4,000 Illinois residents were arrested in 2009 for driving under the influence. In the same year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a study which revealed that of the fatal motor vehicle accidents in 2009, 32% involved alcohol-impaired drivers – with Illinois being responsible for 311 drunk driving related deaths.
Truth of the matter is, when alcohol is consumed, it absorbs in the blood of the consumer – ultimately causing more blood to be supplied to the brain than to any other organs. This subsequently causes alcohol to impair your brain functions and cognitive abilities within minutes. According to KnowYourLimits.com, other alcohol related factors that significantly alter the consumer’s ability to properly function include: decreased reaction time, diminished muscle coordination and depth perception, in addition to, suppression of cautiousness and concentration.
