According to an online news report by Htrnews.com, five members of an Illinois family were injured when their car collided with a large farm tractor north of the state border on Monday. Our Chicago truck accident attorneys learned that around 4:30pm, a tractor unit was attempting to turn east off of state Highway 42 onto county Highway VV when a car trying to pass the tractor struck it. The collision caused the tractor to spill a large amount of diesel on the roadway. In addition, authorities say the car struck and downed a utility pole, causing scattered power outages in the Two Rivers area. The car then stopped in a ditch on the side of the road and emergency crews rushed to the scene.
The Lieutenant of the Two Rivers Fire Department said the driver of the car was transported by ambulance to Aurora Medical Center. His wife, the front-seat passenger of the car, was airlifted by helicopter to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. One of the three back seat passengers was transported to Aurora Baycare by ambulance, while the other two were taken to Holy Family Memorial in Aurora, also by ambulance. The extent of each passenger’s injuries was not immediately known, as well as if the driver of the tractor was injured. State patrol continue to investigate the accident, while Water and Light Department crews from Illinois and Wisconsin worked to clean up the fuel that spilled from the tractor.
From the perspective of our Illinois truck accident attorneys, accidents caused by negligent drivers of semi trucks, tractor-trailers, and other large commercial vehicles are causing an increasing amount of personal injury and fatalities throughout the state of Illinois and surrounding areas. However, it cannot be assumed that the tractor driver was to blame in this particular incident, as the car involved was responsible for hitting the tractor while trying to pass it. Even so, due to the larger size and weight of tractors and trucks in combination with the smaller size and vulnerability of other vehicles, accidents become much more destructive and likelihood of serious injury occurring during a collision greatly increases.
Although the above report does not confirm whether anyone planned to seek legal action as a result of the accident, when individuals do suffer serious injuries as a result of careless or negligent motorists, they have the right to take action. Our Illinois truck accident lawyers understand that accidents involving semi trucks or other large commercial vehicles can result in life altering consequences.
