A large collision involving a pick up truck and a semi-truck in Macomb, Illinois on Friday has left roadways closed and two individuals seriously injured, according to Olneydailymail.com. Preliminary information from a McDonough County Sheriff states that the pick up truck appeared to have drifted over the centerline while heading eastbound on state Route 136, causing it to collide with a semi truck in a westbound oncoming lane.
The sheriff says that there were two occupants in the pickup truck, which was overturned, and one occupant in the semi. A man who lives close to the scene of the accident, which specifically occurred near the intersection of Route 136 and County Road 1800 East, said the collision “sounded like a sharp explosion.” Reports state that from his vantage point, he could only see the wheels of the over-turned pickup truck.
As a result of the accident, the passenger of the pickup and the driver of the semi were transported to McDonough District Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the pickup truck, who was trapped within the vehicle, was evacuated by helicopter. East and west bound lanes on state Route 136 of Macomb were also closed. Details regarding the nature of the accident and specific injuries remain unclear; the county sheriff was unable to provide any more information. The accident is currently under investigation by Illinois State Police.
Our law firm understands that accidents similar to the one above are very common and often fatal on Illinois roadways, generally taking place when a vehicle either deliberately or accidently crosses a centerline or median, travels the wrong way in a traffic lane, and crashes into an approaching vehicle. Illinois Police objectives to reduce the number of head-on accidents currently include attempting to find ways to keep vehicles from traveling into the opposite lane, minimizing the likelihood of a car crashing into an oncoming vehicle, and ultimately reduce the severity of accidents that occur. However, our attorneys understand that not all accidents are preventable. Truck accidents caused by distracted or negligent drivers can cause life-altering consequences to those involved, including personal injury, medical expenses, or even property damage.
