3-Year Old Girl Struck And Killed By Truck In Roseland

Tragedy struck this weekend in Chicago, Illinois when a delivery truck killed a 3-year old girl while she was crossing the street with her family. Chicago.cbslocal.com released details about the accident, stating that it occurred around 11:25am Saturday at 103rd and State Streets in the Roseland neighborhoods. The little girl was attempting to cross State Street with her mother and brother when the delivery truck struck and killed her. Witnesses say the girl had broken free from her mother and ran under the truck’s back wheels.

A witness stated that he tried to help the family after the accident, trying to tell them to refrain from picking her up or moving her. But everyone soon realized that nothing could be done for the little girl and that the truck had simply crushed her. The driver of the truck and his passenger stopped immediately after they realized the truck had hit something; he was devastated to see it was a child. Neither he nor the witness had noticed the girl behind the truck until it was too late.

Our Illinois truck accident attorneys learned that the girl was rushed to the nearest hospital, but police say it was just a formality; the girl was already dead when first responders arrived at the scene. Witnesses say her family was simply heartbroken, in disbelief, and almost hysterical at the scene, having just helplessly witnessed a vehicle so suddenly cut their 3-year old’s life short. Though it does not seem as though any charges will be filed in this case, the police Major Accident Unit is continuing to investigate the accident.

Our Chicago truck accident attorneys, in addition to those who witnessed the accident, hope it will serve as a warning to other children and parents in the neighborhood about the danger of crossing busy streets. It also serves as an eye-opener about how fatal truck accidents can be. Whether driving next to a semi-truck on the highway, biking near a pick-up truck, or in this case, walking in the street near a delivery truck, accidents can and do happen involving truck drivers and other motorists, bicyclists, or pedestrians each day. It is essential that individuals take the proper safety precautions necessary to avoid an accident with a truck driver, including remaining safe, remaining attentive, and ultimately following the rules of the road.

Although we cannot assume that the truck driver was to blame in this particular incident, when accidents do occur as a result of negligent motorists, they have the right to take action. Our Illinois accident lawyers at Levin & Perconti understand that accidents involving semi trucks or other large commercial vehicles can result in personal injury and life altering consequences.
