The Chicago Tribune reported today on a deadly area truck crash involving multiple vehicles that ultimately took the life of a Park Forest woman.
The Chicago semi accident took place on Interstate 80 at the location where the highway intersects with Interstate 355 near New Lennox. According to reports, the 60-year old female victim was driving a Toyota Corolla shortly after 2 p.m. last Wednesday when she hit the back of a stopped semi-truck on the highway.
Following that initial impact, a tractor-trailer that was traveling behind the car failed to stop in time to avoid hitting the back of the first accident. As a result, the second semi slammed into the back of the Corolla pinning the small car in between the two trucks. The second impact also caused the second semi to swing out and sideswipe a car headed in the opposite direction.
All told, four vehicles, including two trucks, were caught in the accident. The female Corolla driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after.
Unfortunately, when collisions occur on area highways, they often involve more than just one or two cars. With so many different vehicles traveling on the high-speed roadways at the same time, many other vehicles are often caught up in accidents following an initial collision.
These accidents often involve multiples parties who are each negligent. It is for that reason that it is important to contact a Chicago truck accident lawyer to help sort through the complications following these multi-car crashes. The attorney will be able to help explain how the courts weigh a variety of different factors when an Illinois truck crash lawsuit is filed to determine who deserves compensation for their losses. At the very least, it is important for all those involved in these incidents to explain their story to an attorney and learn about their legal options.
