Fatality Rates Fall in Trucking Accidents

According to a press release from the American Trucking Association that cites a recent Federal Highway Administration study, fatalities from accidents involving large trucks were down by 5.8 percent in 2007. This may be attributed to limits on Driver Hours of Service that went into effect in 2005. Truck drivers are limited to drive only 11 hours in a 14 hour timeframe to ensure they receive the respite needed to operate their trucks properly. Since the new rules were put into place, there has been a 10 percent decline in truck-related accidents resulting in fatalities.

Despite this decline, it is still important for truck and passenger vehicle drivers alike to practice caution on the roads.
