Illinois Man Charged for Fleeing the Scene of Fatal Accident

An Illinois man has been charged in connection with a trucking accident that killed a young Illinois woman on February 12th. The victim was killed when she fell out of the passenger side of the car that the man charged in connection with the accident was driving. Once the young woman fell out of the car, she was struck by both a car and a semi-truck which killed her right away. According to The St. Louis Post Dispatch, police are unsure at this time whether the passenger jumped out of the moving car she was riding in or whether she was pushed from the car. The car then crashed near an exit ramp on 1-94 and the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot. Police were able to later find the driver and apprehend him.

Regardless of why the victim fell out of the car, the driver has been charged because he immediately fled the scene following the fatal trucking accident. The driver has been charged with one count of aggravated driving under the influence that caused a death, one count of aggravated fleeing from the scene of an accident and one count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

It is against the law in the state of Illinois to leave the scene of an accident that you were involved in, and the charges are even more severe if the accident involved a personal injury and most severe if the accident involves a fatality. Our Illinois truck accident attorneys realize that many people get worried when they are involved in an accident and are worried about what will happen to them if they stay at the scene, but our attorneys want to remind everyone how important it is to stay at the scene anytime any kind of accident occurs. Drivers may face severe charges if they leave the scene of an accident and are much better off staying at the scene and talking to the police when they arrive. This is important anytime there is an accident, no matter how small or how severe the accident is. If you hit a parked car or a piece of property it is important to stay at the scene as well and to call the police immediately and report the accident, or you may face charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to property.
