A trucking accident in Champaign caused one lane of Interstate 57 to be closed for several hours on January 4th. The trucking accident occurred when the load of pigs that the driver was carrying shifted in the truck and caused the truck to trip over. The truck then slid into the road blocking both of the southbound lanes. The truck driver was not injured and the veterinary teaching hospital and several students from the University of Illinois program were called in to assist in helping the pigs. According to The News-Gazette, the rescue was rather difficult due to the freezing temperatures and the truck driver was cited for failing to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident.
